Early Bird Eats the Worm

September 29, 2013

we met some family for dinner saturday night and arrived at our destination super early. that's a rare thing for hunter because he likes to cut it as close as he can. but I love being early. i'm early everywhere I go. seriously. go ask my friends. or ask my mom. i'm always the first one there waiting patiently for everyone to arrive.

i am that girl at the airport who you have walked by a zillion times because she has been waiting for 3 hours. you wonder if she is lost or homeless or if she is a stewardess on her long layover. i'm not lost, though. i plan ahead for forgetting something, rain, tornadoes, food shortage, my purse getting stolen, vampires, wolverine invasion, poisonous rats, world war z, hunger games, you know. all of it. but i like it. i like to take my time and stroll through the security lines and browse through the jewelry stores and start a good book in the bookstore. (i've gotten to chapter 6 in a book before because of the length of my wait time.) i like to grab some sour patch kids and read the recent gossip in the magazines. the workers always give me the look like "aren't you gonna buy that"? ummm..no...i already read the whole dang thing.  i like to call my long lost friends who i haven't talked to in ages. or i like to watch prison break or pretty little liars on netflix.

i'm not sure why i'm like that. maybe it's because my parents were always early or on time everywhere they went. maybe because of the traumatic airport runs we had growing up where dad was mad and we forgot this and that and had to go back for my passport and such. those family vacations never started out the best when we were running behind. or maybe it was because we were early enough every sunday to sit in the same spot every single time. we had this pew at church that was "reserved" for the Gibb family. . Everyone knew it was for us. it was the 4th row from the front on the right-hand side. no one ever took that pew because they knew it was ours. unless of course they were visiting. then they were in trouble (mostly joking).

now a little change of pace. let's envision a psycho trying to cut in the ticket line and running to baggage claim and sweating profusely and freaking out because he might miss his flight. meet my husband. he likes to cut it close. real close. i asked him why he thinks he does that and he said, "i like the rush." you like the rush or you like to rush? both i guess. hunter doesn't plan well enough and underestimates how much time it takes to do something or get somewhere. i overestimate. looks like we are a good match.

i'm early. he's late. now, we are on time together. we balance each other out very nicely.

But on saturday night we were early. this led to taking lots of pictures with our self-timer.

  3. Let's get the story straight... I never cut anyone in line, sweat at an airport, or run to baggage claim (because that's after you land!). Why rush to the airport just to sit around for an two hours? I am glad Lacy likes being early, I'd be a worse mess if she weren't around.
